This past weekend, the National Rifle Association (NRA) held its annual gathering in Texas, with Donald Trump serving as the keynote speaker. Traditionally, figures like Wayne LaPierre and Charlton Heston, who famously declared you could pry his gun from his “cold, dead hands,” headlined such events. Now, the NRA has chosen Trump, a man who was once anti-gun until his son was photographed with a hunted elephant, to address their audience.
During his speech, Trump exhibited another episode similar to those he has experienced in court. He began by praising the “Texas spirit of proud independence, forged by cowboys, cattle hands, ranchers, rangers, oil workers, soldiers, and brave pioneers,” before abruptly pausing and staring into space for over 30 seconds.
He then resumed his speech with a familiar rhetoric of decline. “We are a nation in decline,” Trump claimed. “We have the highest inflation in 58 years, banks collapsing, and skyrocketing interest rates.” These statements contradict the current economic indicators, which show record low unemployment and a historically high stock index.
Trump’s speech, marked by these “glitches,” raises concerns about his fitness for office. Critics argue that his recurring lapses highlight his unsuitability for the presidency, emphasizing the urgency of addressing his influence in American politics.

Trump awkwardly paused during his keynote address at the NRA for around half a minute. Just kinda standing there, glowering in a more confused than cogent manner, there is no mistaking that is not a planned moment. The only reason to pause for this much effect is if the effect you want is “What the heck is wrong with this guy?”
Trump took to Truth Social and tried to defend his behavior with an idiotic excuse. He wrote:
“My Speech in Dallas this weekend at the NRA’s “Endorsement of President Donald J. Trump,” was attended by a Record Crowd of very enthusiastic Patriots. The Biden Campaign, however, put out a Fake Story that I “froze” for 30 seconds, going into the “Musical Interlude” section, when in actuality, the 30 to 60 second period of silence is standard in every one of my Speeches where we use the Music. Check out any of my Speeches! The reason they came up with this Disinformation is that Biden freezes all the time, can’t put two sentences together, and can rarely find his way off the stage without help. Donald Trump doesn’t freeze! It is a MADE UP Biden Campaign story, put out in a dying Newspaper that I never heard of, and every Reporter knows it, including the large group that was there.”
